New Order – “Republic”
After I left Mayfair Studios at the end of 1991 I was wondering for a while if I’d done the right thing and if the producers who had promised me work would come up with anything. After I’d had a few small jobs Stephen Hague came through with the offer to engineer New Order’s new album at Real World Studios (Peter Gabriel’s place near Bath). I ended up working on the album for several months both at Real World and RAK and although the project was a wonderful experience for me and I made great friends with the band, it was tainted by all the problems that were happening with Factory Records, which went bust near the end of the recording process. The album finally came out in 1993 on London Records, reaching No.1 in the UK and No.11 in the US. The lead single, ‘Regret’, reached No.4 in the UK.
